Can you resign from your family ties? Or are you forever bound together like the knights around the round table? In the legends, it is said that brotherhood is the strongest of all bonds. But that is not always the case in reality.
Before Agnas Bros.’ latest recording, the mood was not at its best. The four brothers could not agree, but still decided to meet in the studio. Perhaps this was the last attempt for the brothers to find out if the old brotherhood still was as it used to be. Unfortunately, the mood was even worse after the recording. The process of making an album had to be paused. Was it perhaps time to collectively resign from the family band? Or is it as the saying goes—that time heals all wounds?
Fortunately, inspiration returned. Old feuds cooled down and the band of brotherhood was saved from splitting once again:
Agnas Bros.’ fifth albumSista Försöket (translated "Last Attempt") will be their first album on the Moserobie label!
The album features music composed by the four brothers, in a different format than on previous releases. The majority of the material is recorded analog to tape at Atlantis Studio, which contributes a distinctive imprint of texture and dynamics.
It is about a virtuosic brotherly jazz that is woven together in a creative production by Konrad Agnas and Daniel Bingert.
Roughly irregular and swinging bebop combined with finely tuned chamber music. Without direct pauses Sista Försöket is moving like a collage, where artists such as King Tubby, Milton Nascimento, and Bo Hansson’s fairytale worlds have colored the sound with the crackle that is also part of the music.
Brothers Konrad (1990), Kasper (1992), Mauritz (1995), and Max Agnas (1997) started Agnas Bros. in 2008 in the basement of their parents’ home in Vallentuna, Stockholm. Over the years, they have developed into a true band unit, based on an almost telepathic approach to interplay, improvisation, and composition. With five albums behind them, they have achieved success on stages across Europe, summer festivals, large and small jazz clubs in both Swedish and European countryside towns.
They are all very much in demand musicians on their own, and have performed and toured with international jazz stars like Pat Metheny, Aaron Goldberg, Nils Landgren and Petter Eldh. With contemporary ensembles like O/Modernt and Stockholm Chamber Brass.
Traveled around Europe and the Middle East with Egypt artists like Nadah El Shazly and Maurice Louca.
Even toured with Eurovision winners like Salvador Sobral, Loreenand worked closely with swedish pop artists like Rebecka Törnqvist, Sara Parkman, Monica Mac, Annika Norlinand Loney Dear.
Besides all this they are a steady part of the Swedish jazz scene playing with Per “Texas” Johansson, Johan Lindström Septett, Lina Nyberg, Hederosgruppen, Angles 9 and Goran Kajfes.
